    Get PDF
Objective: This study dealt with different academic library spaces like collection space, user seating space, service & staff work area space, non- assignable space etc. The main objective of the study was to identify the library spaces of four select State University libraries of Assam and how these spaces were being identified, organized and utilized by adopting different measures. It also emphasized on the weeding out policy of the University libraries as it was the key element of library space management. Methods: For this study, both qualitative and quantitative approach for data collection had been used. A structured questionnaire was prepared and sent to the head of the libraries for collecting relevant information and personal interview with the librarians had also been done. For collecting proper measurement of the spaces, physical verification of the libraries was also carried out. Results: The finding showed that the libraries had efficiently utilized its spaces and adopted different measures for optimum utilization. Different spaces were so organized that natural and artificial lighting facilities and natural air could take place. The libraries followed various guidelines or standards, keeping in mind of the institutional goals and objectives. But whenever it would create difficulties to agree with these standards, the libraries would follow its institutional guidelines. Conclusion: This study is helpful for the upcoming library professionals or future library planners to cope-up with the changing environment due to the implementation of web-based technologies and future library space re-arrangement process in the libraries

The literacy in digital world requires acquiring, exploring, managing, accessing, presenting, and using digital contents in easy manner. It is the skill to utilize and operate digitally enabled tools and software’s to perform effectively in digital world which requires cognitive skills, technology sound and web competency. The present study attempts to assess digital literacy skills and competencies among library users of central university of Jharkhand. An organized and structured questionnaire was framed having open and close end questions and was randomly distributed among users. It was observed that majority of users are aware of web tools and comfortable in online environment. The student needs training and digital literacy program for better work output. It further discusses understanding level of digital components, web technology application in learning and research, problem faced while using internet components. The paper also deals with awareness of various databases, e-learning tools and various types of literacy such as information literacy, web literacy, ICT literacy etc

The present study examines the impact of Social Networking Sites on college students of Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing (RIPANS), Aizawl. The study focused on the SNSs usage on academic performance, both positive and negative influence, the purpose and problem faced by the students in using SNSs. 150 well-structured questionnaires were distributed to the randomly selected students of RIPANS to find out the impact of using SNSs for their academic performance, out of which 146 students have responded. The collected data is further analyzed and presented in tables followed by charts with interpretation. The findings of the study show that all the respondents are aware with SNSs and used it for sharing information, ideas and opinions regarding academic activity

AN EFFICIENT NUMERICAL SCHEME TO DETERMINE THE PULL-IN PARAMETERS OF AN ELECTROSTATIC MICRO-ACTUATOR WITH CONTACT TYPE NONLINEARITY

ABSTRACT In this article, we present an efficient numerical scheme based on the Rayleigh-Ritz method to determine the pull-in parameters of electrostatically actuated microbeams exploiting contact type nonlinearity. A case of an electrostatically actuated cantilevered microbeam is first analyzed using the RayleighRitz energy technique. The deflection of the microbeam is approximated by a polynomial trial function. The principle of the stationary potential energy leads to a highly nonlinear algebraic equation, which is solved to determine the deflected shape of the microbeam. A novel voltage iteration algorithm is implemented to determine the critical voltage at which the pullin occurs. The analysis is then extended to the case of cantilever beam making use of the contact type nonlinearity to exhibit an extended travel range. The present case consists of a compression spring getting engaged at the cantilever tip at the critical point where the pull-in occurs. An increase in both travel range and pull-in voltage is observed with the introduction of the compression spring. A performance index is suggested, which combines the gain in the travel range together with the concomitant increase in the pull-in voltage. This index is used to determine the critical bound for the choice of the stiffness of the newly introduced compression member

Objective: The study aimed to find out the implementation and adoption of different security systems in the selected University libraries of Assam. It highlighted the various physical, environmental security systems as well as digital data security systems that were adopted for library security purpose. The study also examined how far these libraries had implemented various electronic security systems like CCTV, RFID, air-conditioner for humidity control, smart card, biometrics, flood detector, fire or smoke sensor etc. Methods: For the study, total six University libraries had been purposively selected by considering the possible availability of various security measures. A structured questionnaire was prepared for collecting relevant information. To collect more information, personal interview including telephonic conversation and direct observation had also been done. Results: Finding showed that the academic libraries efficiently adopted and implemented both traditional or manual and technological or digital data security systems even though they had suffered from some technological or financial constraints. Adoption of an effective security plan was the primary key to secure the library resources from theft. Majority of the libraries had its institutional security plan so that these libraries could follow them accordingly. Conclusion: As time changed, the procedures for securing library resources very much difficult and with technological advancement, the libraries should opt for electronic or digital data security systems. Though the initial investment in such electronic security systems would be high, but in long run, it would provide better results as well as cost-effective for the libraries

    Get PDF
The concept of blockchain technological came into existence from the first cryptocurrency, Bitcoin. It is a very new, complex and trusted technology, and researchers are working continuously to find a way to apply this disruptive technology in different areas. This paper discusses a brief concept about the blockchain and the application of blockchain technology in libraries & information centres to enhance better library and information services in the future, as well as at present. This paper provides a basic understanding of blockchain technology, like what blockchain and blockchain technology is, its features, advantages, types, and how it will be helpful in education and libraries? Blockchain is a very disruptive technology that can reconfigure all aspects of society and its operations. This technology is immutable and distributed, making it difficult for transactions to be changed, duplicated, or faked. The study is an initiative to make library professionals aware of this emerging disruptive technology and guide them in taking some actions for the appropriate application of blockchain technology in libraries
